Between France and Italie
Ride up the mountain
pulled by the wind...
... has always a bit of wind to offer !
A dedicated spot
perfect for beginners or advanced kiters
If you know how to ski or snowboard down a red slope, then you can learn how to snowkite.
When snowkiting, you ARE NOT FLYING, but gently gliding on your skis or snowboard, pulled by your powerkite. On snow, you only need a tiny bit of wind to start sliding, and get this amazing feeling of skiing with the wind!
If you can choose, we strongly advise you to start on skis rather than with a snowboard, as it is much easier and quicker to learn snowkiting with independent feet 🙂
San Bernardo Kite
Our school is based at an altitude of 2200m, on the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass, facing Mt Blanc (GPS : 45,6799254N 6.8835581E). It is located in the heart of the ski area Espace San Bernardo (La Rosière – La Thuile). It is an exceptional spot to snowkite, as you can stay in a real ski resort with all services at your hand. Even if you partner or your friends do not wish to snowkite, they will have tons of activities to do while you’re having fun with your kite!
Your instructor will welcome you directly on the spot. Groups are of a limited number, in order to insure that each student has enough time to get the best infos and advice. You will simply need to bring your own skis or snowboard, or rent some of your choice in one of the ski shops of the resort. All other equipment are provided : kites & harness. All our equipment is new and frequently checked.
Be aware that you can only access our school by taking the ski lifts, with a skipass, from La Rosière (France) or from La Thuile (Italia).
The Spot at Petit-Saint-Bernard pass
At exactly 2088m of altitude, the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass is at the cross roads of winds between France and Italy.
It is among the most snowy place in the Alps, and it is quite common to see up to 5-8m of snow. With its wide plateau, its little hills and cornices built by the wind, the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass is simply a paradise for us, snowkiters.
And as if it wasn’t enough, we have the chance to kite facing the Italian side of Mont Blanc!
Check list for your snowkiting course
In order for you to spend a great session, we built up this little check list :
- your ski pass + ski map of the Espace San Bernardo
- all-mountain skis to go in any type of snow
- OR a Twintip Snowboard with soft boots and centered bindings.
- enough cash to pay for the inssurance and the course (No credit/debit card)
- your helmet
- sunblock + sunglasses + goggles
- water + energy bars
- warm gloves
… what if there is not enough wind?
We chose the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass to settle our snowkiting school as it is famous for the steadiness of its winds (an average of 15km/h per day all year around). But of course, it happens that Eole goes on vacation…
In that case, courses are postponed or canceled. But it does not mean that you’ll get bored on your holidays ! There are lots of activities to choose from in La Rosière or La Thuile
- Go skiing or snowboarding the 160km of slopes + an extensive off pist area facing Mont Blanc
- Speeriding / Paragliding
- Spas and wellness
- Great food from France or Italy
